Brief Biography – Dr. Maria Vargas-Vera
Dr. Maria Vargas-Vera is a British Computer Scientist with expertise in Artificial Intelligence. She received a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence in 1995 from The Artificial Intelligence Department; Edinburgh University, Scotland. She held research positions at University of Bristol and Open University UK. Also, she has been Faculty member in several universities such as National University of Mexico (UNAM); Open University, UK; University of Nicosia, Cyprus; Poznan University of Economics, Poland; Kings College of London and Adolfo Ibañez University, Chile. Dr Vargas-Vera has presented open lectures around the world and she has been Guest Researcher at Poznan University of Economics, Poland and TU Dortmund Germany. Furthermore, Dr Vargas-Vera has published over 140 publications in prestigious International journals, books and conferences in her areas of expertise. As part of her scientific activities, Dr. Vargas-Vera was Chair of the “International Pervasive Computing Applications and the Networked World Conference ICPCA-SWS 2013” held in Vinia del Mar Chile; December, 2013. Dr. Vargas-Vera was a Keynote Speaker at MICAI-2013 and Keynote Speaker at the 13th International Congress of Computer Science CORE-2013. Additionally, Dr. Vargas-Vera is an Associated Editor of the Journal in Emergent Technologies of Web Intelligence (JETWI); International Journal of Knowledge and Learning (IJKL) and Open Journal of Semantic Web (OJSW). Furthermore, Dr. Vargas-Vera has been in the program committee of International conferences in Artificial Intelligence, and she has been reviewer for many conferences and journals including IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics. Dr. Vargas-Vera was awarded Marie-Curie Fellow (TOC) in 2007 and Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS) in 2009. Further, she was member of BCS ELITE (Effective Leadership in Information Technology) from 2013 until 2017.
